Taken on a recent photography workshop I added a darker sky from a darker shot in a bracketed series of three shots. The technique is fairly time consuming and involves copying an RGB channel layer and creating a mask from it. The second exposure is then imported as a new layer and the mask is used to create a selection which is then used to copy the darker sky on its own layer. Phew!! I was quite pleased with the final result though. Yet more snow falling and again the world is plunged into a photographers paradise-if only I could get the car up that hill I know there is a shot waiting for me!!

A couple more shots just finished. I love snow!!! It may be cold and hard work to shoot in but it is so breathtaking how it changes the landscape overnight. These shots were bracketed and tonally balanced using layers in Photoshop. A tripod is imperative for registration in Photoshop. Kent photography workshop

Did a new photography workshop the other day and we had a bit of snow! It turned the day into a winter wonderland photo extravaganza. My new D300s didn't arrive in time but still got some great shots from wide angles to more detailed telephoto shots. Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year!

Kent photographer shoots the snow

Managed to get out into the snow yesterday and took a few nice shots. How rare to get snow that hasn't melted with a blue sky! Picture postcard stuff. Waiting for my new D300s to arrive with 14-24mm superwide. Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year everyone!

More shots from the USA

A couple more shots from America. The Chinese picture was taken at Disney Epcot. You get to see the whole world in one day- very convenient if you want a short haul long distance trip!! The other shot is Naples pier- yet another glorious sunset.

Funfair photography at night is fun!

These shots show how a tripod, although heavy to carry around, allows you to get some interesting long exposure effects. The camera will not create camera shake when attached to a tripod-the cause of many ruined photo's. For some extra fun I unlocked the tripod head so I could move it about during the long exposure of 10+ seconds which resulted in the beautiful abstracts you can see.
